With the expanding family and kids going to school, it was time for a family car. Living a middle class is very straining in Pakistan, thanks to ever bad and unstable politics and those who cant be named, kept it that way since 47. We bought a second hand (well there are a lot more hands involved till it reached us) Santro Plus car from year 2000 (2 decades old).
The decision was based on first car, low budget, city use car as well and spacious and comfortable (compared to other options in same budget). Reading the specs this car is still solid competitor to many new models (talk about monoply of car companies here).
This car is also called ATOS in some part of world and also have different set of features in some places. It was hard to find owners manual and specifications. So here, I will share some confirmed details that I was able to collect from internet and mechanic.
Idle Speed (RPM): 900 > 1000 rpm
Engine oil for Santro plus 2000 model: 3.1 liters of 20w50 (due to hot weather)
Spark plug for santro plus:
NGK : BKR5ES-11
CHAMPION : RC9YC4, RC10YC4
1.0 – 1.1 mm (0.039 – 0.043 in.)
Brake fluid: DOT 3, DOT 4 or equivalent
Tapet setting / valve clearence
Valve-to-rocker arm clearance
HOT (after normal temperature running engine)
Intake valves ….. 0.2 mm (0.008 in.)
Exhaust valves …. 0.25 mm (0.010 in.)
Cold (engine cold for 6 hours)
Intake valves ….. 0.1 mm
Exhaust valves …. 0.17 mm
